Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant resigns after sexual misconduct investigation
Allegations included inappropriate messages, photos and sexual acts.
SHEBOYGAN — A lieutenant at the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office resigned earlier this year after an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WKTS News that in May 2025, it received a report alleging potential misconduct by Lt. Anthony “Tony” Blodgett. “Upon receiving the initial report, and due to the nature of the allegations which included the potential for criminal charges, I took immediate and decisive action to ensure an impartial and transparent investigation,” said Sheriff Matt Spence.
“To uphold our standards of accountability and transparency, the Sheriff’s Office officially requested the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a fully independent, external criminal investigation into the allegations,” explained Spence. This measure was taken to avoid any perception of internal bias and to ensure the thoroughness of the review process. In addition to the independent criminal investigation, the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office simultaneously initiated a comprehensive internal administrative investigation into the incident.
“We evaluate every allegation of misconduct independently and respond appropriately given the situation,” said Spence. “The employee involved was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations.” Blodgett, who was the subject of these investigations, resigned and is no longer employed by the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 13th, Sheriff Spence attended a special union meeting of patrol deputies at the Howards Grove Fire Department over concerns with Blodgett’s performance as lieutenant. According to a source, deputies were prepared to take a rare vote of no confidence in Blodgett but Spence had asked deputies to hold off to allow him to investigate. The following day, Spence met with a female deputy who alleged Blodgett had been soliciting nude photos from her for quite some time. The deputy further alleged Blodgett had sent unsolicited nude photos of himself to her via Snapchat.1
Blodgett reportedly told the victim that he had “an agreement” with an unnamed female officer with the Sheboygan Police Department to meet with her and she would hand over her phone which contained nude photos of herself. But the most concerning allegations were Blodgett inappropriately touching a female deputy and sexual acts. In documents released by the Sheriff’s Office, Blodgett admitted to sending and receiving nude photos as well as sexual activity that occurred at Blodgett’s Town of Mosel home. There are other interactions including one that took place while on duty.
Blodgett’s wife, Sarah Blodgett, is a lieutenant at the Sheboygan Police Department. The interaction with a female deputy at Blodgett’s home occurred while Sarah was working. Blodgett told an investigator that their young children were “in bed.”
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office did not recommend criminal charges. Blodgett resigned in July 2025. He accepted a position with Lakeshore Transportation, a company providing rides for the disabled and elderly in Sheboygan County. Blodgett joined the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office in 2008. In August 2010, Blodgett was shot by a 27-year-old Green Bay man, who had been drinking, took Blodgett’s pistol from a shelf then struck a cowboy pose. He allegedly pulled the trigger and said “bang” thinking the gun wasn’t loaded—but it was. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Blodgett violated two department policies in the incident.2
“The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office is committed to maintaining the public’s trust and ensuring that all personnel operate with the utmost integrity and professionalism,” added Spence. “We thank the neighboring agency for their independent review and will have no further comment on this personnel matter.”
