Sheboygan School Board approves $191.5 million budget, nearly 16% increase in tax levy
Enrollment is down this year in the school district with 9,251 students attending class

SHEBOYGAN — Homeowners in the Sheboygan Area School District will soon pay slightly more in property taxes after the Board of Education approved its budget for the upcoming year.
The school district’s Tax Levy for 2026 is $31,779,775 compared to $27,403,542 in 2025, which is a 15.9% or nearly $4.4 million increase according to the SASD. The Equalized Mill Rate is $5.70 for 2026 compared to $5.44 in 2025.1 74% of the budget will be spent on salaries and employee benefits. Teachers, support staff and administrators will receive a 2.95% salary increase.
Enrollment is down this year in the school district with 9,251 students attending class in September. That’s down 218 students from last year. Due to the decrease, three teaching positions will be cut. SASD has $108,373,000 in remaining long-term bonded debt. State reimbursement for Special Education expenses increased by 10% but the State budget included no increase to general state aid, shifting the tax burden to local property owners.
Property tax bills will be mailed out in December.
