City of Sheboygan to spend nearly $284,000 to demolish Fountain Park Restaurant
Demolition of the Downtown Sheboygan motel and diner to start in early October

SHEBOYGAN — Demolition of Fountain Park Motel and Restaurant in Downtown Sheboygan is expected to begin in early October.
The city’s Public Works Committee will meet on Monday to approve the bid of $283,800 from Scott’s Excavating of Sheboygan Falls. That is the same company that demolished the former Pier 17 restaurant on Sheboygan’s Riverfront last month. Their bid was the lowest out of nine bids with the highest coming in at $828,000.

Due to the close proximity of the building to North 8th Street and the alley to the north, Scott’s Excavating will erect a fence around the property. The demolition work will require a partial temporary closure of the North 8th Street sidewalk and a portion of the alley to maintain worksite safety and security. Work should be competed sometime in winter. Groundbreaking of a new hotel is planned for spring.

The City of Sheboygan purchased the restaurant and motel from Jetmir Ameti for $3.2 million last year. While demolition is planned, no date has been set. Rolly Lokre of Plover-based Lokre Companies is proposing a 104-room Marriot Spring Garden Inn hotel consisting of a rooftop restaurant and a 5,000-square-foot distillery.
According to the Tax Incremental District (TID) Development Agreement between Lokre and the city, he will purchase the property from the city for just $1. Officials anticipate that the project will be worth $14 million once completed. Construction will begin no later than March 2026. In preparation for the building’s demise, workers from Wisconsin Public Service disconnected natural gas service earlier this month.
