Sheriff Cory Roeseler keynote speaker at Cascade Memorial Day Ceremony
The retired Sheriff spoke on the importance of serving the community

CASCADE — Retired Sheboygan County Sheriff Cory Roeseler was the keynote speaker at a Memorial Day service in southwest Sheboygan County.
The event was hosted at the Cascade Lions Club in conjunction with the Cascade American Legion Post 386. “Today, we honor the brave men and women who fought and gave their lives for our freedom,” said Roeseler, who served as Sheriff for six years. “We’re here to celebrate all those who have given their lives and thank those who came before us to make sure we live in a great country that we do.” He added that Memorial Day was originally founded in 1868 as Decoration Day.
“Memorial Day is a holiday like no others,” continued Roeseler. “The word of happy is not in front Memorial Day. Today is a day of respect, we just honor those who come before us.” He has had opportunities to speak with veterans and often asks them why they joined the service. According to the former Sheriff, many of the veterans responded that they wanted to do their part for our country.
Roeseler had also served as Police Chief of the Cascade Police Department from 2001 to 2015. Before retiring as Sheriff last June, he had a 33 year career with the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office. He explained the reason he become a law enforcement officer was because he really enjoys helping people. During his speech Monday morning, Roeseler encouraged the community to get more involved by becoming a first responder and doing simple acts of kindness.

A brat fry benefiting the Lions Club was held following the ceremony, which included hamburgers, pork and beans, German potato salad, and raffles.
