Sheboygan Visual Artists looks to open gallery in South Pier District
The building's owner is behind in property taxes and ground lease payments

SHEBOYGAN — An art gallery is opening along the Sheboygan Riverfront in the coming weeks after being without a home for much of the year.
Sheboygan Visual Artists (SVA) received approval from the City Plan Commission to open at 534 South Pier Drive, next to Inklings Used Books. The space was formerly occupied by the Sheboygan Wellness Studio. The Honey Hole, an antique store, closed in September 2021 after the owner of the building terminated the store’s lease.

The non-profit organization was evicted from their longtime home at the EBCO Building on Erie Avenue earlier this year. Renovations to the South Pier building include painting the interior walls and new lighting. No grand opening has been set.
"Our art exhibits will help draw tourist and local residents to the South Pier area," said Tom Ferguson, President of SVA. "The SVA art gallery will complement other South Pier businesses."
In the arrears
The 42-acre South Pier District is owned by the Sheboygan Redevelopment Authority. The buildings that exist in the district have ground leases from the authority.
35-year-old Kyle L. Mack of Whitewater owns the building as well as the building to the east which houses Americans for Prosperity and Happy Rocks & Jewelry. He purchased both buildings from Sharron Quasius in November 2019. The building has $773.25 in unpaid property taxes. The building to the east has $615.34 in unpaid taxes. Mack’s Mackximus LLC is also $25,056 behind in ground lease payments to the Redevelopment Authority.
