Sheboygan County Highway Department to expand in Town of Wilson
The South District Shed was constructed in 1971

TOWN OF WILSON — The Sheboygan County Highway Department will expand its South District Shed after receiving approval from the Town Plan Commission.
Construction is expected to start sometime this summer at the South District Shed, located at 7614 Frontage Road in the Town of Wilson. “We are extremely maxed out on space there right now,” said Transportation Director Bryan Olson. The shed was built in 1971 by Miller Masonry of Little Chute at a cost of $152,175.
In addition to a 10,364-square-foot addition to the existing shop, the office will be expanded by 451-square-feet. A new 11,444-square-foot building will be constructed to the south for a wash bay and salt storage. New security fencing and lighting is planned according to documents submitted to the town.

In 1970, Sheboygan County purchased the 32.45-acre farm property for nearly $20,000 from Hugo Bunke. The site was chosen due to its proximity to Interstate 43, then called U.S. Highway 141. Before the shed was built on Frontage Road, the Highway Department operated at 2602 Georgia Avenue in the Town of Sheboygan. Today, it is the home of Overhead Door Company.
In total, the Sheboygan County Highway Department has 95 workers with as many as 17 being assigned to the South District during the winter months.
