SHEBOYGAN — The cost for emergency medical services in the City of Sheboygan is increasing.
Beginning in January 2026, those living in the City of Sheboygan will pay between $950 for Basic Life Support (BLS) services plus $22 per mile. Depending on the type of Advanced Life Support (ALS) services, residents will pay between $1,400 and $1,600 plus $22 per mile. For non-city residents such as those who live in the Town of Sheboygan, Town of Wilson or Kohler, the rate is $200 higher.
An example of BLS service is a ride to a local hospital for a bellyache or injured toe whereas an example of ALS service is a serious injury such as a heart attack, gunshot or stab wound or trauma from a car accident.
When it comes to lift assists, the first three in a calendar year are free. The Sheboygan Fire Department charges $50 for the fourth, fifth and sixth lift. The fee is $150 for the 10th. A lift assist is when firefighters and paramedics are called to help a person who has fallen. While paramedics do respond to homes for such incidents, the majority of these types of calls originate at nursing homes.
In September, the Town of Sheboygan had considered charging for lift assists but the town’s Public Safety Committee decided not to implement such a fee.
Orange Cross Ambulance and other ambulance services have their own set rates.
