City of Sheboygan to collect 3% more in taxes in 2026 and will spend $52.9 million
A city official said the proposed budget is pretty much set in stone

SHEBOYGAN — The Common Council is expected to approve the 2026 budget which calls for spending $52.9 million and collecting 3% more in taxes.
According to a document obtained by WKTS News, the City of Sheboygan plans to collect nearly $19.3 million in taxes, $1.4 million in licenses and permits and nearly $1.1 million in fines and forfeitures. The city will also bring in nearly $3.4 million by charging for services such as trash pick-up.
In terms of spending, the City of Sheboygan intends to spend a total of $52.9 million in 2026. Public safety is the largest expense with almost $27.8 million being spent on law enforcement and firefighting. The second largest expense is the Department of Public Works with $7,857,563 being budgeted. Total spending is up by 8.74% in 2026 compared to 2025.
The annual Budget Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14th at 6 PM in the Common Council Chambers on the 3rd Floor. Taxpayers are encouraged to attend as they will have an opportunity to speak on the proposed budget. According to a source at City Hall, no further changes to the budget are expected even if opposition from the public is expressed. This is due to a number of capitol projects that need to be funded. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media, said the proposed budget is pretty much set in stone.
