Sheboygan Area School District looks to sell South 24th Street property
The nondescript maintenance storage shed was built in 1953

SHEBOYGAN — A longtime eyesore in Sheboygan’s Indiana Corridor Neighborhood could be sold later this year.
The Sheboygan Area School District owns the nondescript maintenance storage shed at 1230 South 24th Street. Over the years, the grass and weeds have been a concern for neighbors. Just last summer, a pile of chopped wood sat in front of the building which is about two blocks north of James Madison Elementary School. Currently, the building has peeling paint and a wooden board covering a broken window.
“We are in the process of cleaning out the building,” said Mark Boehlke, the district's Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operational Services. “Once everything is removed, we will discuss with the School Board about the possibility of selling the property.” If the building is sold, neighbors would like to see the storage shed torn down and replaced with housing. Aside from the storage shed, the rest of the block is residential homes. “It would be nice if a home could be built there,” added Boehlke.

The building, called the West Side Shop, was constructed in the Charles Krieg Subdivision by Art & Mel Hummitzsch General Contractors in 1953 at a cost of $9,630. In 1943, the subdivision was annexed into the City of Sheboygan from the Town of Sheboygan. Today, the home directly behind the storage shed is still located within the town limits along with eight other properties on Indiana Avenue.
