Sheboygan Mayor Ryan Sorenson considering a run for Lt. Governor
Sheboygan's Mayor is one of several potential Democratic candidates

SHEBOYGAN — Mayor Ryan Sorenson is among eight Democrats considering a run for Governor of Wisconsin in 2026.
While its highly unlikely Sorenson will launch a gubernatorial campaign, sources say the 31-year-old is actively considering all of his options. Sources tell WKTS News that Sorenson is more interested in running for Lieutenant Governor and believes he would have a good chance of winning the Democratic primary for the position. That job is currently held by Sara Rodriguez, who announced last week that she is running for Governor. She was in Sheboygan along side Sorenson on Tuesday touring a number of developments in the city.
Should Sorenson decide to run for Lt. Governor and win the Democratic primary in August 2026, he could help the Democratic candidate for Governor win the election with the youth vote. Another Democrat considering a run for Lt. Governor is 43-year-old Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski.
According to a straw poll from the Young Democrats of Wisconsin, which asks who the next Governor of Wisconsin should be, Sorenson comes in third place. As of Wednesday morning, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley leads in first place while Rodriguez is in second place.
Sorenson has not publicly commented on his political aspirations. He does own the Sorenson for Wisconsin domain name, just one hint that he does intend to seek higher office at some point in the future. In recent weeks, he has been seen with a lobbyist and has been a frequent guest at Democratic fundraisers.
