Sheboygan Area School District highlights growth, innovation and investment
Nearly $1 million was invested in a new reading curriculum

SHEBOYGAN — The Sheboygan Area School District (SASD) is proud to share its 2025 Points of Pride community report, which celebrates student success, program innovation, and strong community support.
The school district serves more than 9,300 students across 25 schools and continues to stand out for its academic performance, fiscal responsibility, and commitment to inclusive, high-quality education.
An independent analysis of comparable districts conducted by the ECRA Group, a research firm, identified the SASD as outperforming our comparable group average in every category of overall proficiency and achievement scores, while serving the second-highest percentage of economically disadvantaged students.
Academic growth was seen across all grade levels according to Nicole Sondalle, the district’s Marketing & Communications Coordinator. Elementary students saw significant academic growth, with 68% meeting or exceeding growth targets in reading and 66% in math on the nationally normed Star assessment. Middle school students demonstrated similar success, with 65% meeting reading growth targets and 62% achieving math growth targets on the STAR assessment. High school seniors earned over $3.6 million in tuition-free college credit through dual enrollment courses. Two juniors achieved perfect ACT scores of 36.

SASD continues to make strategic investments in teaching and learning. Nearly $1 million was invested in a new reading curriculum, which will be rolled out in the 2025-26 school year. This new reading curriculum is engaging for students, will build knowledge across content areas, is standard-aligned, and is more user-friendly for staff according to Sondalle. Teachers benefited from nine full days of professional development, with a major focus on literacy instruction. New leadership initiatives include the launch of a Principal Development Institute and the appointment of 12 Department Leaders to enhance instruction across electives and exploratory subjects.
More than 1,700 students received Special Education services across 12 areas of need. Over 1,790 multilingual learners, speaking more than 35 languages, were supported by 80 staff members. The district served over 1.3 million free meals in the 2024–25 school year and supported nearly 300 homeless students through the McKinney-Vento program.
“As we look to the future of the Sheboygan Area School District, I’m filled with optimism and gratitude,” said Superintendent Dr. Jacob Konrath. “Our community’s unwavering support continues to drive innovation, equity, and excellence in our schools.” With 65% voter approval for the November 2024 referendum, the $121 million referendum to rebuild and remodel Farnsworth and Urban Middle Schools will begin in early 2026 and reflects the shared commitment to providing modern, safe, and innovative learning spaces for the next generation.
