PLYMOUTH — Electric rates could be going up for customers next year in western Sheboygan County.
Plymouth Utilities has filed an application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to increase electric rates. According to the utility, the adjustment has been requested to cover inflationary increases in operational and maintenance expenses. The last electric rate increase was approved in May 2015. Plymouth Utilities has requested an overall increase above the present revenues of 7.98%, or $1,924,278.
If approved, the increase rates will also help cover costs associated with maintaining the reliability of the electric distribution system.
This request is detailed in Plymouth’s application submitted to the state regulator in Madison on July 23, 2024. After review, Public Service Commission staff proposed a revised increase in rates of $929,614 or 3.85%. The actual change to individual customers will vary with electricity usage, class of service and the ultimate rates authorized by the Commission. If the application is approved, the average residential customer will see a monthly increase of approximately $5.25, or 6.01%.
A hearing on the application has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 25th at 10 AM. Members of the public may attend by internet or telephone or listen to the live broadcast at psc.wi.gov.
