Plaza Ate proposed for Downtown Sheboygan
Developer asking for help in shaping the newest Harbor Centre destination

SHEBOYGAN — The historic West Block Building in Downtown Sheboygan could be transformed into a Food Hall, one of many ideas being considered by the developer.
Fifth Generation Properties, the owner of 810 North 8th Street, has launched a campaign seeking the public’s input for the next big thing in the Harbor Centre. For now, the building located near North 8th Street and Wisconsin Avenue is being called Plaza Ate. The first floor features 4,350-square-feet while the second floor has 10,900-square-feet of space. While one of the ideas under consideration is a Food Hall, Plaza Ate could also be a live music venue, sports bar, art gallery or German rathskeller.

The public is asked to cast their vote at fifthgenllc.com.
The West Block Building was constructed in 1924 by H.C. Prange and has been home to a number of businesses over the years including Knitting Mills in 1928. In November 1975, First Federal Savings opened a branch in the building. As part of their grand opening, they held a "I like Sheboygan's new Plaza 8 because..." contest with 128 winners being selected. When the bank closed, Entourage Salon & Spa operated out of the space from 1994 until they relocated to their current location on Michigan Avenue in 2004. A year later, Bill Greinke opened The Sign Shop of Sheboygan, which was the last business to operate in the building.
Next door to the south is Nikki's Nex 2 New, which occupies the former Walgreen’s store that closed in October 1986. The Prange-Geussenhainer Hardware Co. operated from 1905 to 1950 and rebranded to Ace Hardware for nine years until closing in 1959. Blood's Toy Center was the last store before the building was demolished in 1961 to make way for the Walgreen’s store and restaurant.

After 25 years of being a Walgreen’s store, a short-lived bookstore opened in 1994. Foerster Academy of Dance then opened in 1999 until closing in 2003. The space was also used by a church but largely sat vacant until Nikki’s 2 New signed a multi-year lease with Fifth Generation Properties in 2022.
