Parking to be eliminated outside Sheboygan Starbucks
City of Sheboygan will be implementing the change due to safety concerns

SHEBOYGAN — On-street parking outside a Starbucks cafe on Sheboygan’s north side will be eliminated in the coming weeks due to safety concerns.
Travis Peterson, the city’s Public Works Director, told WKTS News that eliminating parking will allow for adequate clearance for vehicles and reducing the risk of conflict. No parking signs will be installed on the north side of Ontario Avenue from North 14th Street and ending 400 feet west. Currently, the street allows for on-street parking in both directions but the street is too narrow. The street leads to Kiwanis Park from the east. It was last reconstructed in 2005 as part of a sewer project.

“Allowing parking on both sides of a 32-foot-wide street compromises safety by creating narrow lanes, forcing drivers to swerve into oncoming traffic,” said Peterson. Normally, a minimum width of 40 feet is ideal for a street in Sheboygan. Parking on the south side of Ontario Avenue will remain unchanged. Between December 1st and April 30th, parking is prohibited near the intersection.
The proposal will be discussed at the city’s Public Works Committee where it will likely be approved. It will then be referred to the Common Council for final approval at their meeting on Monday, August 18th.
