Construction underway on $1.6 million bicycle trails in Plymouth
Two recreational trails will be constructed this year
PLYMOUTH — Construction is already underway on one of two bicycle trails in Plymouth, which has resulted in a months-long road closure.
The southbound lane of County Road E, from State Highway 23 to Douglas Road, will be closed until August. The federally funded project will extend the Old Plank Road Trail along the stretch of road, which is also known as North Highland Avenue.
The second segment the construction project will be 0.2 miles along the Mullet River. This work will complete the trail along the riverfront and include a new bridge over the Mullet River. Work is expected to begin in June. There are no road closures expected at this time for that segment.
According to Aaron Brault, Director of Planning & Conservation for Sheboygan County, the total cost for both segments is $1.6 million. James Peterson Sons, Inc. was awarded the contract since the firm submitted the lowest bid.
