Nuisance bandit signs appear throughout Sheboygan
Trashy signs are often illegally placed and are considered litter

SHEBOYGAN — Ever wonder sometimes about the unusual yard signs promoting quick cash or events you see around Sheboygan?
Signs advertising "We Buy Junk Cars" and “We Buy Houses” have plagued Sheboygan the last several years, popping up along streets and parking lots. The signs are often illegally placed in the public right-of-way and on private property without permission. Placement of the signs is considered littering.
It is unlawful for any person to erect, fasten, post, paint or maintain any sign, picture, poster or advertisement upon any structure or object on the public right-of-way. This includes stop signs, traffic signals, along the curb between the street and sidewalk. Signs illegally placed will be removed by city employees and disposed of. In some cases, the Sheboygan Police Department could issue citations for each violation.
Each violation could subject the violator to the forfeitures and possible jail time depending on how severe the violation was. According to the City of Sheboygan Municipal Code, a forfeiture for each violation could cost up to $100. If the citation is not paid, imprisonment not exceeding 30 days is possible. Additionally, the City Attorney could take further legal action on top of any citations issued.
