No foul play suspected in drowning at Sheboygan Quarry
Sheboygan Police arrested an individual for making a threat

SHEBOYGAN — Police have released new details surrounding Tuesday’s drowning at the Sheboygan Quarry that claimed the life of a teenage boy.
The Sheboygan Fire Department responded to the Sheboygan Quarry for a report of 13-year-old Antonio Coleman drowning shortly after 2 PM on Tuesday, July 15th. On Thursday afternoon, Captain Mike Stelter told WKTS News that the teen was swimming in a non-designated area of the quarry. “According to our initial investigation, the juvenile was with a group of acquaintances when the accident occurred,” said Stelter. “Based on the consistent accounts provided by witnesses and those present, there is no indication at this time that foul play was involved.”

The Sheboygan Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning. In the aftermath of this incident, false and misleading information has circulated on social media. The misinformation has contributed to heightened emotions. In a bizarre twist, officers arrested one individual for making a threat according to Stelter.

Swimming at the Sheboygan Quarry is only permitted in designated areas during regular business hours. Both the Jaycees Quarryview Park and the Sheboygan Quarry Beach have since reopened to the public.
Coleman is the 14th drowning victim at the quarry since 1953. The last drowning occurred when 19-year-old Johny Kue of Manitowoc was swimming with friends on May 15th, 1991. Sheboygan County Circuit Judge Edward Stengel threw out a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family. Kue's family said the city was negligent. In August 1988, 5-year-old Eric Pelky lost his life at the quarry. In July 1985, 17-year-olds Brian L. Marquardt and Trent Bennett had drowned there in one week.
