Legend Larry’s wins three national awards at Buffalo Wing Festival
Scary Larry Sauce named Best Hot Wing in the Nation

BUFFALO, NEW YORK — Legend Larry’s, Sheboygan’s hometown wing institution, earned three new national awards this past weekend at the 24th Annual National Buffalo Wing Festival.
The event was held in Buffalo, New York and is one of the nation’s premier food festivals drawing over 45,000 attendees and featuring 20 competing restaurants from across the country.
The restaurant took first place in the nation in the Traditional Hot category with its Scary Larry Sauce, placed third in the Traditional Medium category with its Medium Sauce, and earned third place in the Craft Wing category with its new Wisconsin Old Fashioned sauce. Created by Larry’s son Dane Schaefer and inspired by Wisconsin’s favorite cocktail, the sauce is not yet available in restaurants, but Dane noted that “we’re working hard to bring it to our customers very soon.”

With these awards, Legend Larry’s has now collected 34 total honors at the festival since first competing in 2005 — 18 of them first-place finishes. Despite not competing every year, Legend Larry’s is now the most awarded restaurant in the festival’s 24-year history.
“This event is like our Super Bowl,” said founder Larry Schaefer. “To be recognized again in Buffalo, against some of the biggest names in the wing world is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
The National Buffalo Wing Festival, held annually on Labor Day weekend at Sahlen Field in Downtown Buffalo, featured more than 100 wing styles this year, including over 60 brand-new flavors. Alongside the competitions, fans enjoyed live entertainment, cook-offs, and the ever-popular USA Chicken Wing Eating Championship.
Legend Larry’s operates locations in Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, Manitowoc and Green Bay. Their award-winning sauces also available in retail bottles online and at many area grocers.
