Construction starts on Kohler's lakefront property
Property has been owned by the Kohler family for over a century

SHEBOYGAN — Work has started on three villas and other buildings at Kohler’s lakefront property on Vollrath Boulevard.
Rachel DeYoung Kohler, the daughter of the late Herbert V. Kohler Jr., received approval from the City Plan Commission in April to construct three new single-family homes, a family hall building, a pool and gym building, and an underground parking garage. Renovations and expansion of the existing single-family residence known as the Kohler Chalet were also approved. The Chalet is the original home built on the property in 1919 and will remain a single-family residence.
The villas will be used by the Kohler family and their guests. According to documents filed with the City of Sheboygan, they will not be used as rentals.
The property, located to the north of Vollrath Park, was owned by John Michael Kohler and later Herb Kohler. In 1991, he sold the single-family home at 222 Vollrath Blvd to the current owners, Tryg Jacobson and his wife. When Kohler died in September 2022 at the age of 83, the property was inherited by his daughter Rachel.
The Davey Tree Expert Company had recently cut down several trees and bushes on the property. Wagner Excavating started their work on the project this week. In addition to construction of multiple new structures, a new driveway at North 3rd Street and Geele Avenue will also built. Security of the property is provided by the Kohler Company.
Rachel Kohler married to Mark Hoplamazian in 1991. He is currently the President and CEO of Hyatt Hotels. They have three children and live in the Lincoln Park Neighborhood of Chicago.
