Kohler-Andrae State Park to host July events
Shakespeare in the Park is one of several events planned at the park

TOWN OF WILSON — Kohler-Andrae State Park is hosting a number of events during the month of July.
Park officials encourage members of the public to participate but a vehicle admission sticker is required. A daily pass or annual sticker can be purchased at the entrance. For more information or for questions, call the park office at (920) 451-4080.
Tuesday, July 15th
Discovery Bird Walk
8 AM – 11 AM
Friend's Fishing Pond on Old Park Road
Meet Master Naturalists Janet & Andy Raddatz to observe birds and nature in the park. The walk along Old Park Rd. and the Ancient Shores Trail may take 2-3 hours depending on what is seen. Participants can leave at any time. Wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather. Bring insect repellant, sunscreen, and binoculars. Some binoculars available. Age 12 and up; children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets please. Bird walks meet weekly.
Wildlife of Wisconsin
7 PM - 8 PM
Sanderling Nature Center
Whooo's ready to meet a real live owl? Join Jerry Theys from Wildlife of Wisconsin for a close-up encounter with 3–4 amazing birds of prey! Discover what to do if you find injured wildlife, and maybe even join in a fun skit. It’s feathered, fascinating, and totally family-friendly!
Thursday, July 17th
String Art in Nature
6 PM - 8 PM
Sanderling Nature Center
Let your creativity shine as you create a nature-themed string art piece. We’ll provide the basic design already set up for you to twine string around. You choose the colors and the amount of detail you want to apply. Best for those age 8 years and up. All children need to be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited so pre-registration is required by calling the Park Office at (920) 451-4080. A fee of $5 per kit will be collected at the program.
Saturday, July 19th
Kite Building Workshop
10 AM - 12 PM
Park Bathhouse
Join in the fun of making and decorating a pocket sled kite during one of the workshop sessions. Then head out to fly the kite. This workshop is best for children ages 12 and under; younger children will need parental help. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets, please. A fee of $5 cash per kite kit will be collected at the workshop. Credit card purchases must be made at the office before going to the program.
Monday, July 21st
Shakespeare in the Park: “Love’s Labour’s Lost”
7 PM
Amphitheater
Enjoy the Summit Players’ production of “Love’s Labour’s Lost” in which: after vowing to avoid women, the King and three of his friends have to host a princess and her three ladies. The four men fall in love and decide to court the women. In the end, the women must return to their kingdom for a year after which they will marry the king and his friends, providing they remain true to them. No pets allowed.

Black River Trail on South 12th Street
Wildflowers change throughout the year. Join Master Naturalist Karen Merlau and discover the many wildflowers growing along the Black River Trail. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Bring insect repellant, sunscreen, and field guides or apps. The hike will last at least an hour. An adult must accompany children.

Cranes of the World and Wisconsin

Did you know that Wisconsin is home to the most common Crane AND the rarest Crane? Learn about the Sandhill Cranes and Whooping Cranes that make Wisconsin their Summer home and the rich history that Wisconsin has in bringing the Whooping Crane back from the brink of extinction. No pets allowed.

Ships, Shipwrecks and Sanctuary Drop-In

Drop by the Sanderling Nature Center for a fun, family-friendly dive into Great Lakes shipping history and the perils of Lake Michigan. Hear the true tale of Sport the sailing dog, a heroic horse-led shipwreck rescue, and discover how local shipwrecks are being preserved in the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary. Plus, explore more shipwreck-themed adventures nearby!
Wisconsin State Parks, Forests, and Recreation Areas: A Ranger’s Guide

Published just in time for the 125th anniversary of Wisconsin State Parks, former park and forest ranger James Buchholz has released “Wisconsin State Parks, Forests, and Recreation Areas: A Ranger’s Guide”. Please join Jim, retired Kohler-Andrae superintendent, for a discussion of some of the 80 gems that make Wisconsin such a great place to be. His book includes practical information on hiking, biking, and nature trails, human history, and geologic features as well as wildlife viewing tips and trivia. Books will be available for sale and signing, with proceeds going to the Friends of Kohler-Andrae who make so many park events and projects possible.
