Representative Joe Sheehan holds forum on public education
The 90-minute forum largely focused on funding, school choice and vouchers

SHEBOYGAN — A local legislator was in Downtown Sheboygan to discuss education.
Democrat State Representative Joe Sheehan held an informational forum on K-12 Education on Tuesday, August 5th at Mead Public Library. The forum largely focused on funding, school choice and vouchers. He was joined by Anne Chapman, Research Director for the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO).

32 individuals attended the event. Those in attendance included Sheboygan Mayor Ryan Sorenson, SASD School Board Member Mary Lynne Donohue and Superintendent Mike Trimberger of the Random Lake School District.
“We took a poll from our office of what issues you wanted to have further conversations on after the budget and education was the most requested,” said Sheehan. “I hope this meeting will serve as a great way to learn about the current issues facing K-12 Education and answer any questions you may have.”
During forum, which lasted 90 minutes, Sheehan said he was working with his colleagues in the State Assembly to bring more transparency when it comes to funding vouchers. Locally, that could come in the form of a line item on property tax bills. Sheehan said he was in talks with Mayor Sorenson on the idea. Sorenson departed the event early and was not able to explain his position on the proposal.
