Habitat for Humanity to build home on Sheboygan's north side
A single family home will be built near St. Dominic Catholic Church

SHEBOYGAN — A construction will soon begin on a new single family home in Sheboygan’s Cooper Neighborhood.
The home will be built by Habitat for Humanity Lakeside, which has owned the land at the northeast corner of North 22nd Street and Geele Avenue since 2015. The property was donated by Sheila Matlin. Groundbreaking and construction scheduled to begin this fall according to Lisa Bertagnoli, Marketing & Communications Manager for the non-profit organization.
Only one neighbor appeared before the city’s Zoning Board of Appeals to voice opposition to the construction. Jennifer Reynolds is concerned the land is not large enough for a home and further expressed concerns over on-street parking. Reynolds shared a number of grievances with the Board. Ultimately, the Board unanimously voted to approve the proposal.
There are multiple benefits to building a home in the neighborhood according to Jon Hoffman, Habitat’s Construction Manager. The proposed investment of building an owner-occupied home will create immediate advantages to the public interest in the form of increased property values and eliminate blight.
Habitat for Humanity Lakeside is the Sheboygan County affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, the global nonprofit dedicated to eradicating substandard housing. Since its founding in 1993, Habitat for Humanity Lakeside has built 52 houses and served more than 170 families with its housing initiatives. Its new strategic plan calls for building five homes each year, beginning in 2027.
