Construction paused on $1.5 million gas station on Geele Avenue
Construction work was suspended during the winter due to costs

SHEBOYGAN — Construction of the new BP gas station in the city’s North Railway Neighborhood has been suspended but is expected to restart soon.
It’s not the first time the project has been delayed. Basudev Adhikar, the owner of The Spices, received approval in 2022 from the City Plan Commission to build the new J-Mart Convenience Store at North 15th Street and Geele Avenue. According to documents submitted to the city, the 4,845-square-foot gas station will also include a traditional Indian restaurant.
Construction had started late last year but was suspended according to Matt Quasius, President of Quasius Construction. “While I do not have a definitive timeline, I can tell you that the project will be restarting soon.” said Quasius. “We did suspend work on the project for the winter due to the cost of winter construction.” He added that Adhikar is committed to completing the project as soon as possible.

Since the project was previously approved, the building footprint has decreased by approximately 1,000-square-feet. Adhikar had planned to have a second floor office above the gas station. The property was formerly Select Auto Sales before going out of business. The building, which has been vacant for a several years, was demolished by Spielvogel & Sons Excavating in 2022 to make way for the new development.
In addition to owning The Spices, the Kohler businessman also owns Jay’s Food and Andy’s Corner Restaurant. Adhikar most recently opened a new BP gas station at North 26th Street and Superior Avenue in the Vollrath West Neighborhood. He also owns the following gas stations:
Tidy Store, North 14th Street and Wisconsin Avenue
Harbor Petro, South 9th Street and Indiana Avenue
Shell, South 17th Street and Indiana Avenue
J-Mart, North 20th Street and Calumet Drive
J-Mart, South 12th Street and Union Avenue
Adhikar is also planning to build a gas station next to Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen on South Business Drive. The property is currently being used by CG Services and Holland Landscape Supply. It is not known when construction would begin on that project.
