Buc-ee's coming to Southeast Wisconsin
The travel center chain is known for its massive convenience stores and iconic offerings

OAK CREEK — Plans for Wisconsin’s first Buc-ee’s are moving forward in southern Milwaukee County.
Buc-ee's, the Texas-based travel center chain, is proposing to build its first Wisconsin location in the City of Oak Creek. The proposed store would be built at the southwest corner of Interstate 94 and Elm Road. The land is currently an open field. It would be located one and a half miles north of 7 Mile Fair & Flea Market.

According to city officials in Oak Creek, Buc-ee’s has proposed building a 73,370-square-foot convenience store with 120 gas pumps. “We are thrilled to welcome Buc-ee’s to Oak Creek, as they choose our growing city for their first-completed store in Wisconsin along the critical I-94 corridor,” said Mayor Dan Bukiewicz. “We look forward to seeing the positive impact Buc-ee’s will have on our community.”
When the store would actually open is unknown. It is anticipated the store would open in early 2027. The company has not yet purchased the 29.6-acre property from land developer and restaurateur Hans Weissgerber Jr. As it currently stands, Buc-ee's plans to open three new stores in 2026, eight in 2027 and five in 2028 but Oak Creek is not included in those openings.

Buc-ee’s, which has set records for the world’s largest convenience store and the world’s longest car wash, is known for its massive convenience stores and iconic offerings. It also boasts having the cleanest restrooms. Each store has a plethora of hot food and bakery items.
"We are honored that Buc-ee’s selected our city for its first expansion in the upper Midwest,” said City Administrator Andrew Vickers. “Buc-ee’s represents an opportunity to not only bring a unique experience to the region, but to also showcase the Oak Creek community to hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.”

In 2023, Buc-ee's announced plans to open its first-ever Wisconsin location near Madison but those plans are on hold. Negotiations went unresolved after the Village of DeForest and the travel center couldn't come to an agreement over sharing the costs of highway improvements along Interstate 90.
